Pub will be first in village for 15 years

-

A VILLAGE will get its first pub in 15 years – and it could be open as early as next month.

Vale of Glamorgan Brewery has been given permission to open a new micropub in Station Road, Radyr, after having planning permission and a licence approved this week.

The brewery says the Radyr Tap could open as early as the August bank holiday – giving the area it’s first watering hole since the closure of the Radyr Arms in 2003.

It follows a Twitter campaign started by a Radyr resident to bring a pub to the area.

Jamie Grundy, who began the ‘Does Radyr Have a Pub Yet?’ campaign, said: “It’s going to bring members of the community together.

“I’m really pleased. I’m looking forward to retiring the Twitter account when the pub finally opens.

“I’m pleased to have the support of the Vale of Glamorgan Brewery for taking an opportunity on Radyr. I know it will be successful and well received and well visited by members of the community.”

When it opens, the Radyr Tap will stock the brewery’s own beers as well as local ales, along with wines and spirits.

There will be 36 seats in the pub, with up to eight seats outside.

The Radyr Tap was granted a licence following a hearing a City Hall in Cardiff yesterday.
