Holiday park plan for 57 pitches unveiled near railway

-

VISITORS to the Brecon Beacons could soon be taking advantage of a new holiday park in Merthyr Tydfil.

Plans for 57 camping and caravan pitches at Blaen-y-Garth Farm in Pant have been put forward promising tourism and economic benefits to the area.

The site is close to the Brecon Mountain Railway and is just over 1km away from Brecon Beacons National Park. There would be space for up to 20 mobile homes, 14 touring caravan pitches, 15 tent pitches and eight glamping pods on the site as well as toilet and showering facilities.

A new track would also be built to connect the site to the Brecon Mountain Railway car park.

The farmhouse is a grade two listed building which has been vacant for some time and would be used to house an office, store rooms and shop and the barn will be used as a tourist information area and cafe.

But not everyone is in favour of the plans and there were two formal letters of objection received by the council.

Concerns include the proposed tourist caravan and camping park would attract additional traffic along Pant Road which is already a busy road at peak times and would present an issue for the residents of Pant.

They are also concerned the development is not located within the settlement boundary and the countryside location is not fully justified. And that the development would have an unacceptable impact on the local landscape and would have an adverse effect on the natural heritage and historic landscapes.

Merthyr Tydfil council will consider the plan on Wednesday.
