STABBED TO DEATH
MURDER PROBE LAUNCHED AFTER MAN, 20, DIES ON CITY STREET
A MURDER investigation has been launched following the death of a man in Cardiff, police have confirmed.
Firearms officers, along with uniformed officers, were called to reports of a serious assault in the front garden of a house in Corporation Road just before 2am yesterday.
South Wales Police say the victim suffered multiple stab wounds and died at the scene.
A police statement said: “Although formal identification has not yet taken place, he is believed to be a 20-yearold man from Butetown. Next of kin has been informed.”
The statement added: “The local community is thanked for its patience and understanding while parts of Corporation Road and Holmesdale Street remain closed for searches and forensic examination.”
Speaking yesterday, Detective Chief Inspector Gareth Morgan, who is leading the investigation, said: “Detectives will be making inquiries in the Grangetown and Butetown areas of Cardiff today while we establish the exact circumstances of this fatal incident and who is responsible.
“A young man has been murdered and we would appeal for anyone with information to please contact South Wales Police.
“We are particularly keen to hear from anyone in and around Corporation Road and Holmesdale Street who has private CCTV cameras and also anyone who may have seen or heard any suspicious behaviour, argument or assault at around 2am this morning.”
One Aber Street resident said: “I woke up at 2.30am and all the blue lights were flashing. My husband spoke to the officers who said they couldn’t talk about it.”
Another resident said: “We woke up and the tape was there at 7am. We were in the front room – I didn’t hear anything.”
A third added: “We heard they found a body in the front garden. The police turned up last night and that’s all we know.”
South Wales Police is asking anyone who can help their investigation to call 101, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, and quote reference number 275707.
