Take rodeo challenge at pub’s Wild West night

-

IT might seem like something from the Wild West – or even a beach-side bar in Magaluf – but punters will soon be able to take a ride on a rodeo bull in the Valleys.

That’s because the recently reopened New Inn pub in Ton Pentre is installing a mechanical bull.

In a bid to “bring something a bit different” to the area, the Rhondda pub is hosting a Wild West themed party. As part of the event, a 15ft hydraulic-powered rodeo bull – often used by rodeo cowboys in the USA for practice – will take centre stage. And owners are hoping scores of people will turn up to take on the challenge.

“We want to bring something different and fun to the Rhondda,” Jenna Cox, co-owner of the New Inn, said.

“The pub will be decorated to a Wild West theme and the staff will also be in costume.

“The idea behind the night is to get people to compete against each other on who can stay on the longest, with prizes to be won.”

Based in the heart of Ton Pentre, the New Inn was put up for sale with Sidney Phillips for £250,000 in 2016.

At the time it was one of the busiest pubs in the Valleys, attracting huge crowds every weekend.

The venue was taken over earlier this year and has since re-established itself as a popular local venue, hosting live bands, pub quizzes, race nights as well as hen parties and baby showers.

“The local community has been so supportive about our relaunch,” Jenna said. “We’ve had a lot of positive feedback and are overwhelmed with the outcome.

“We aim to achieve a fun and friendly atmosphere within the venue and are looking into more ways to bring something different to the area.”

The New Inn’s rodeo night will be held on Thursday, August 2, from 7pm-10pm.
