She said: “None of the reports found any evidence that the work undertaken by Bryn was impacting the health of residents. These reports are available along with the minutes of the meetings from Caerphilly council.

“I have not seen any report stating that the work at Bryn is giving children eczema or is effecting they health in any other way. If there is a report, then we need to see it immediately so we can consult with exports about stopping this. If we are doing something that is affecting the health of any children in the area then this needs to be dealt with asap.”

The spokeswoman said there is not a rat issue on site and said they were not planning to expand the quarry but to relocate part of it.

Asked if the firm was listening to residents’ concerns, the spokeswoman said: “Yes. This is why we have gone to [Caerphilly council] and asked for permission to start wetting the roads before our morning start time.

“We have also started wetting the stone stock piles in the quarry to ensure that there is no dust released when they are loading lorries. The company that we contract the stone crushing to undertake daily checks on dust suppression system fitted on the crushing equipment and have hired specialised tankers with a rain gun to assist the normal equipment.”

On rats, she said: “I would advise that the residents keep a record of the date, time, location, number and if the rats are dead or alive that they are seeing and then send that to the council to help identify if there is a rat problem in the village and in particular where those rats are.”

A Caerphilly council spokesman said: “Our pest control team will respond to any specific complaints about rats and the operator has their own arrangements with a pest control contractor for their site.

“However, we have no evidence of any particular problem with rats in this locality.”

When asked if the dust is a health hazard for children in the area, they said: “Officers have attended the area, and the site itself, and we continue to work with the operator to ensure that appropriate dust control measures are in place.”
