Could you give a home to Snowy the lurcher?

-

STAFF at Dogs Trust Bridgend are hoping a family will come forward to welcome a three-legged deaf dog into their hearts and home.

Five-year-old lurcher Snowy arrived at the rehoming centre after being found as stray. Staff don’t know how she lost a leg and suspect she has been deaf since birth but say it doesn’t hold her back from living life to the full.

Snowy is described by staff as “an energetic, happy girl with heaps of personality who loves going for a walk and having lots of fuss.” Now they’re hoping luck will be on her side and she’ll be “hopping” off to a home of her own soon.

Angela Wetherall, Dogs Trust Bridgend rehoming centre manager, said: “Snowy is such a wonderful dog with so much love to give and certainly doesn’t let the fact she is missing a leg hold her back – she runs like the wind.

“Many people are often put off by rehoming a deaf dog, but again, she certainly isn’t fazed by the fact she can’t hear.

“Deaf dogs can have a perfectly normal life and can be trained fairly easily using hand signals and positive, rewardbased techniques – you just have to be a bit more inventive when it comes to gaining their attention but it is perfectly possible to train a deaf dog to respond to numerous commands.

“Snowy is ready to find a loving family who will put the time into her training needs and be willing to learn hand signals to help train her.

“Her new family will also need to be mindful of the fact she is deaf and be careful not to startle her when sleeping, for example.

“She’ll be a fun addition to any family and would love anyone interested in rehoming her to get in touch.”

Snowy would need to be the only dog in the home, but new owners need to be willing to work with the centre’s Training team on her doggie socialisation skills. Snowy could live with children older than seven who are used to dogs.

If you can give Snowy the home she dreams off, contact Dogs Trust Bridgend on 0300 303 0292.
