Chance to solve whodunnit on city streets

- NATHAN BEVAN Reporter nathan.bevan@walesonline.co.uk

FANCY yourself as a budding Sherlock?

Well, now you can put your talents as a wannabe detective to the test on the streets of Cardiff as an interactive murder-mystery whodunnit unfolds across the capital.

It’s taking place on Saturday, August 11, and Sunday, August 12, and amateur sleuths will be able to group together in teams of two to six to take on the case of a centuries-old murder involving Cardiff’s own John CrichtonStuart, the 2nd Marquess of Bute.

Your task is to hunt down clues, question real-live witnesses, and solve ingenious puzzles as you pit your wits against the forces of evil, thereby saving the life of an innocent person.

Called Appearance of the Obeli, it’s been developed by local business collective FOR Cardiff and game-makers Casefile and follows the success of last year’s event, which saw more than 200 players participating.

Starting in the centre of the city at 10am, the mystery should take two to three hours to complete, with participants also to enjoy the sights and sounds of the city while they’re out and about – making themselves at Holmes, as it were.

“Last year’s Casefile game made a real change from the usual kind of event held in Cardiff and people really responded to that,” says Adrian Field, FOR Cardiff’s executive director.

“We hope players will all find at least one of our hidden local gems that they didn’t know about before.”

There is also a dedicated children’s trail for any junior detectives, making it the perfect day out for all the family.

Head puzzle-master Stephen Blackwell adds: “This time I think we’ve upped the ante, adding more actors, more puzzles and some little ‘missions’ that players need to complete as they go.

“Casefile gets players using their body and brain in equal measures, and includes having a lot of fun along the way.”

Ticket prices are £12 for adults, but accompanied under-12-year-olds go free. There are also discounted team tickets available at £50 for six players.

Tickets can be bought in advance online at www.billetto.co.uk – use the code FORCARDIFF to get 20% off.
