Bangor’s focus on students makes big impression

-

BANGOR University continues to impress – with the latest student satisfaction ratings once again placing it firmly in the Top 10.

The National Student Survey (NSS) results – released last month – sees Bangor University among the UK’s top 10 universities for student satisfaction.

The survey, a poll of more than 320,000 graduating students at each university in the UK, provides the most comprehensive feedback on the student experience at each institution. This year, of all the universities that offer a broad range of subjects, Bangor is ranked joint 9th in the UK, with an overall satisfaction rate of 88%.

The positive evaluation of the Bangor experience in the NSS was welcomed by the university’s Pro Vice-Chancellor for Teaching & Learning, Professor Oliver Turnbull.

“The university prides itself on our excellent teaching and the strong support we provide for our students, and the results reflect this,” said Prof Turnbull. “The NSS data is one of the measures we use to ensure that we respond to our students, and to continually enhance their experience at Bangor. It’s also, of course, valuable information for prospective students, as they make decisions about their university places.”

As the university gets ready to welcome a new intake of students, those new entrants can be assured that a high quality education awaits them. A glowing quality assurance report is among the most recent accolades for the student learning experience offered at Bangor.

The university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor John G Hughes, welcomed the Quality Assurance Agency’s (QAA) Institutional Review, which was published earlier this month.

“Bangor is the first university to undergo a quality and enhancement review,” said Prof Hughes “and we found it to be a very detailed and thorough review. The findings reflect the high academic standards that are to be found at Bangor, and we are very pleased with the outcome and the report’s findings.”

The QAA highlighted a number of strengths including the university’s extensive partnership with students and the fact that the university’s approach to enhancing the student learning experience is “effective, student-led and student-focused.”
