city stars go back to school
TWO Bluebirds stars swapped the City Stadium for the playground when they surprised primary school pupils for a PE lesson.
Sol Bamba and Junior Hoilett surprised year six pupils at St Mary the Virgin Church in Wales Primary School in Butetown, Cardiff, on Wednesday, when they made a guest appearance in their PE class.
The pair went along to help children get active after the summer holidays by leading the class and helping the pupils develop their football skills – and to donate free sports equipment.
10-year-old school pupil Niema said: “Sol Bamba and Junior joined in our session and they were really nice.
“I’ve seen them on TV and I thought they would be bossy, but they were really fun. I like the sessions with Cardiff City because we have fun, it keeps us healthy and it helps with our confidence.”
The trip marks the opening of this year’s Premier League Primary Stars Kit and Equipment Scheme, which runs in partnership with Nike and provides primary school teachers with football kit and equipment.
Cardiff City is one of 101 Premier League, EFL and National League clubs in England and Wales which provides in-school support to teachers and pupils as part of Premier League Primary Stars – the organisation’s education-linked community programme.
Bamba said: “Coming back to school, seeing the kids and giving back to the community is always good to do.
“I enjoy these visits, obviously we’re no different to them and I’ve got kids myself the same age, so it’s great to give back to the kids and inspire them because a lot of them look up to us.
“I was always taught to listen to teachers, coaches and be ready to learn, develop step by step, don’t rush anything and if you have a desire to follow your dreams you can make it come true.”
The scheme offers primary school teachers the chance to apply for a free Nike football strip or a free equipment pack for their school.
