Great British Menu chef Tommy Heaney’s new restaurant Heaney’s, opening in Pontcanna GREAT British Menu chef Tommy Heaney is finally set to open the doors to his new Cardiff restaurant.

Earlier this year the chef crowdfunded £40,000 to open a first restaurant of his own.

Now after weeks of building work on the former Arbenning site in Pontcanna, Heaney’s will officially open on Wednesday, October 10.

The Crumlin-born chef said: “I want the restaurant to be the kind of place where I would go to eat; not fine dining, but somewhere where anyone can come and grab a drink and just eat good food,” he said.

“We’ve incorporated bar seating, communal tables and wines by the glass because we want to keep the prices attractive and the atmosphere relaxed; there won’t be any unnecessary stuffiness, amuse bouches or anything like that – just really tasty food.”

Outside the building hasn’t changed much, but indoors the splitlevel restaurant has been separated into two areas.

The lower level is home to the dining area with 34 covers, with a new bar and seating for another 16 on the bar level upstairs. Reporter

The menu at Heaney’s will include casual bar snacks and a small plates menu, through to a “chef’s choice” sharing menu, priced at £40 per person.

Dishes on both menus will change

Tommy Heaney daily, dependent on what ingredients are available from suppliers and currently best in season.

The weekly Sunday roast menu, priced at £25 per person for two courses and £30 per person for three courses will also be on offer.

A version of the hake dish Tommy prepared on the Great British Menu will also be a regular feature of the menu, after the dish scored him 10 out of 10 on the show.

Heaney’s will also serve Champagne by the glass through a Le Verre De Vin preservation system.

The cocktail menu will include all the regulars plus six alcohol-free options.

Tommy’s own beer, brewed by Bang On brewery in Bridgend will also be on the menu.

The walls feature artwork by Tommy’s late friend Steven Turley, who passed away suddenly earlier this year.

A feature wall features a piece of graffiti art from tattooist Justin Oldham, who did all of Tommy’s tattoos.

Heaney’s will officially open to the public on Wednesday at 11.30am, and will be open 11.30am to 3pm, and 6pm to 11pm from Tuesday to Sunday.
