Ospreys deny interest in exiled wing Adams

-

THE Ospreys have distanced themselves from reports that they are in a tug of war with the Dragons over Josh Adams.

Adams will have to return to Wales in the summer if he wants to continue his Test career, with his Worcester contract set to expire.

It’s been suggested that the Ospreys and Dragons are keen for him to join and would like to have talks to discover his thoughts for next term.

But the Ospreys have made no contact with the player or his agent, not even behind the scenes.

The Liberty Stadium region have George North, Luke Morgan, Keelan Giles, Lesley Klim, Hanno Dirksen and Tom Williams as wings, so it isn’t as if they are desperate for an extra body in that department.

The former league champions have been delighted with the efforts of North and Morgan this term and will soon have Giles available again after he returns from a long-term knee injury.

The team management don’t see wing as a priority position at this point, compared with other areas of their squad.

The picture can change, but that would appear to leave the Dragons as frontrunners to recruit the Josh Adams.

23-year-old, who impressed for Wales on tour in the summer.

Adams, who has four caps, scored a memorable solo try in the second Test against Argentina and performed strongly in the first encounter as well.

The West Walian had previously completed an outstanding season for Worcester Warriors which saw him share the English Premiership’s top try-scorer award with Vereniki Goneva after 13 touchdowns in 2017-18.

Adams can play for Wales this season but, as an exiled player who does not have 60 caps, he will have to come home next summer if he wants to continue his time in Test rugby.
