Bedwas hope to use win as a platform for success

-

BEDWAS bagged their first win of the season at the sixth time of asking, and head coach Stefan Sankala wants to use it to kick on.

Wing Kane Teear-Bourge, lock Phil Williams and flanker Jonathan Armitage crossed for tries as Bedwas beat fellow strugglers Bargoed in a tense battle.

Full-back Joe Scrivens showed his kicking prowess in the windy conditions by landing a hat-trick of penalties and two conversions.

Sankala said: “It was no surprise that we had a hard match against Bargoed.

“You have to be a cohesive, well-drilled side to even get in the mix here.

“They have a strong pack and our biggest problem has been inconsistency this term.

“But I thought the set-pieces were up and down as far as both sides were concerned.

“I think our hard work and cohesion got us over the line.

“This first league win has been a long time coming so it is a relief.

“Hopefully, we have now turned the corner.”

The Bulls showed plenty of fight and their driving forward play earned them two penalty tries.

No. 8 Adam Powell and prop John Lavender also crossed to ensure they claimed two bonus points.

Fly-half Josh Prosser kicked a conversion.
