Bluebirds ‘devaluing’ the Prem, says Cundy

-

FORMER Chelsea and Tottenham defender Jason Cundy claims Cardiff City are devaluing the Premier League.

He launched his tirade on his talkSPORT radio show. Cundy is one of the station’s flagship presenters.

Cundy reckons Neil Warnock’s Bluebirds are on course to be the worst side in Premier League history, joining a recent line of pundits from across the Severn Bridge to have a pop.

Cardiff have endured a difficult start, collecting just two points from their opening eight league outings and are yet to taste victory.

“Derby had 11 points I believe it was,” said Cundy, whilst discussing Cardiff’s fortunes on the show.

“Statistically, they have been the worst Premier League side, Derby. I wouldn’t put it past them (Cardiff) to go very close to that.

“They’ve come in, and I know how tough the Premier League is, I’m under no illusions, but you do look at some teams and think ‘what’s the point?

“I don’t expect them to go out and make signings of £60m, £70m or £80m, but you do think to yourself, realistically, what are your chances of staying in this division if you’re not going to make an effort, so to speak?

“They’ve brought in a lad from Norwich, Josh Murphy. They brought in Bobby Reid from Bristol City. But after that it’s a couple of loans they’ve got in.

“It’s not the sort of assault on the Premier League that you’d say, they’re trying to stay in this league. They’re not. They’re just there. I feel sorry for Warnock, I feel sorry for the fans.”

When asked on air if he feels Cardiff’s efforts are devaluing the division, Cundy responded: “Yes it does. If you’re across the world watching this and you’re paying a huge subscription fee, with the millions that are coming in, Cardiff aren’t enhancing the league, they’re not making the Premier League better.”

Meanwhile, Cardiff City’s appeal over Joe Ralls’ red card versus Tottenham has been rejected. The Bluebirds were unhappy with Mike Dean’s decision to send off the midfielder in the second half of Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Spurs.

Ralls will now miss matches against Fulham. Liverpool and Leicester.
