Steve lays down the Law to Cardiff

CARDIFF head coach Steve Law wants more consistency in performance from his side ahead of their Principality Premiership clash with Llanelli at the Arms Park this afternoon (2.30pm).

The Blue and Blacks have had a mixed start to the campaign, picking up four victories as well as suffering three defeats from the opening seven matches.

However a win this afternoon would make it four on the spin in the league for Law’s side.

The latest of which saw them come from behind to beat his old side Bedwas after recent victories over Cross Keys and Bargoed.

Law said: “It [Bedwas] was a game we won but we won it the ugly way.

“We will take that but are looking for a lot more consistency of performance.

“We are at home this week and you have to look at winning your home games in this league if you want to be competitive.

“Training this week has been very competitive and we are looking to create healthy competition both on and off the field.

“There are some new names in the team for Saturday as we are taking a look at some new combinations as we look at our options.

“That of course will never be easy against a side like Llanelli, but we need to put in a performance again and we will be looking to play some attacking rugby on hopefully a drier day than last week.”

Llanelli’s defeat at Bargoed last week halted their mini-revival having recorded back-to-back wins over Newport and Carmarthen Quins before that.

Elsewhere today, table toppers Ebbw Vale will have their 100 per cent winning record put to the test as they head to Sardis Road to face Pontypridd in front of the live S4C cameras (5.15pm).

The Steelmen lead the way going into the weekend with seven wins from seven while Pontypridd are targeting a fourth win on the bounce.

The other Premiership games all kick-off at 2.30pm.

Champions Merthyr, who go into the weekend two points back on Greg Woods’ Ebbw, welcome Swansea to the Wern.

Aberavon go to Bargoed targeting a seventh win in eight, while Carmarthen Quins welcome RGC, Cross Keys host Bedwas at Pandy Park while Newport clash with Bridgend.

■ Elsewhere this afternoon, silverware is up for grabs as Scarlets A face Leinster A at Parc y Scarlets in the inaugural Celtic Cup Final, kick-off 4pm.

Both sides topped the respective pools with Leinster winning all six of their matches – including a 16-10 win over the Scarlets already last month.

Richard Kelly’s side won three and lost three of their six matches, securing their place in the final with a 58-12 win over Dragons A last weekend.

Kelly said: “The boys are bouncing, especially with the game being played at Parc y Scarlets.

“It was a really tight game last time with just six points in it.

“We know how good Leinster are, but we are a close group and we are confident. We will give it our best shot.”
