One held following alleged ‘stabbing’

ONE MAN has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm after a man was allegedly stabbed in Caerphilly.

The alleged incident happened in Mill Close shortly after 2.30pm on Saturday.

According to the Welsh Ambulance Service, a man was taken to the University Hospital Wales, Cardiff, following “reports of a stabbing”.

The victim has since been released from hospital and his injuries are not believed to be lifethreat­ening.

Gwent Police have now confirmed that one man has been arrested in connection with the incident. He remains in police custody. The duty inspector said: “A man has been arrested, but we are continuing to look for other suspects.

“[He was arrested on suspicion of ] section 18, wounding.”

An eyewitness who was at the scene on Saturday said there was a heavy police presence in the area at the time.

The man, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “It’s pretty hectic.

“The police are still here, there’s a lot of police cars in the street,” he went on.

“One ambulance has left and the air ambulance was here earlier.”

The air ambulance was spotted flying over the area before landing in Morgan Jones Park which is just a couple of minutes away from Mill Close.
