Gran was buried in wrong plot

A FAMILY have discovered that they have been visiting the wrong grave for 14 years.

Grandmother of 12 Marion Jarvis was buried in Penarth Cemetery over a decade ago and was supposed to be laid to rest in a family plot alongside her grandparents Elizabeth and John Hooper.

But it has now been discovered that her body has in fact been lying in the wrong plot, with a complete stranger, metres away from the grave that family members have been visiting for so long.

Tragically, granddaughter Katherine Quick, 32, discovered the truth when her daughter Alice was stillborn, and she asked for her daughter’s ashes to be buried alongside Marion, who was 82 when she died.

According to the Mirror, Penarth Town Council admitted the blunder.

However it remains a mystery how the mistake happened as “nobody who worked at the council at that point works here now”.

Katherine, from Penarth, said: “I think of all the Christmases, Mother’s Days and birthdays I’ve visited that grave and poured my heart out.

“It was like we were grieving for her all over again.

“I’m frightened that they may not have dug her all up.

“I almost feel the need to visit both graves when I’m there.

“It just doesn’t feel right.

“It’s heartbreaking to know if I didn’t lose my baby girl I would have never have known my nan was buried in the wrong place.”

Marion, who had lived in Penarth her entire life died from chest and stomach cancer in 2003.

A spokesman for Penarth Town Council said: “Nobody who worked at the council at that point works here now.

“We as a council have done everything possible to rectify the mistake.

“We met with the family whenever they wanted us to and were very cooperative.”
