Henderson to miss Bluebirds’ Anfield clash

- Jordan Henderson

JORDAN Henderson has been ruled out of Liverpool’s clash wit Cardiff City on Saturday – but Jurgen Klopp has received a triple injury boost.

Henderson was substituted at half-time in the 1-0 Premier League win at Huddersfield Town on Saturday evening after complaining of a tight hamstring.

And the Reds will be without the skipper for their Champions League clash with Red Star Belgrade at Anfield tonight as well as Saturday’s Premier League visit of the Bluebirds.

“Hendo got a little hamstring injury in the game,” confirmed Reds boss Klopp.

“From what I understand, it is not too serious but enough that he is not available tomorrow or at the weekend. From that day on, we will count the days and hopefully against Arsenal (at the Emirates on November 3) he can be back.”

Klopp, though, has been buoyed by the availability of Sadio Mane, Gini Wijnaldum and James Milner for the Group C encounter with Red Star and the weekend.

Mane missed the win at Huddersfieldm but resumed full training on Monday having undergone surgery last Wednesday on a broken thumb sustained while training with Senegal earlier in the week.

Milner came through 70 minutes at the John Smith’s Stadium after returning from a hamstring complaint while Wijnaldum played the second half despite earlier suffering from illness and then taking a knock during the game.

“Sadio looked good in training in the last two days,” said Klopp.

“He trained completely normal so if nothing happens then he is in contention. We have to see.

“Millie looks fine and should be OK, Gini got a knock on his Achilles but should be OK. (We have) a couple of problems, but still enough players to choose from tomorrow night.”

Klopp must now decide the make-up of his midfield, with Fabinho – who made his Premier League debut at the weekend – pressing for a start and Xherdan Shaqiri staking a claim with an assist for Mohamed Salah’s winner at Huddersfield.

Naby Keita remains sidelined having suffered a hamstring strain while on international duty with Guinea earlier this month.
