■■Caerphilly Retired Teachers will be holding this month’s meeting at Mount Carmel Church Vestry, Ponty gwindy Road, Caerphilly, on Wednesday, October 31, at 2pm. Retired teachers are welcome to come along. A friendly group with an interestin­g programme. Always meet on the last Wednesday of the month, except August and December when group does not meet. This month guest speaker Rev Gethin Russell Jones as our guest speaker will be talking about the book he wrote with his mother called My Secret Life in Hut number six. ■■On Friday, November 2, the Penarth Aviation Society will meet in the Penarth Conservati­ve Club at 7.45pm for 8pm when the guest speaker will be Gail Griffiths. She will talk about hot air ballooning. Visitors and potential members are welcome to attend club meetings (held on the first Friday of the month) for a small donation. ■■On Wednesday, November 7, the Cardiff & District Chrysanthe­mum and Dahlia Society will be holding their annual Late Chrysanthe­mum Show at the Scout Hall in Heol y Bont, Rhiwbina, at 2.30pm, until 5pm, all are welcome and admission is free.

■■ A remembranc­e service is being held on Sunday, November 11, at 10.30am in All Saints Church, Porthcawl. All townspeopl­e, religious denominati­ons and other organisati­ons are invited to attend. Following the service, prior to 11am, a two-minute silence will be held at the Porthcawl War Memorial and poppy wreaths will be laid. Refreshmen­ts will be served in the church afterwards.
