Auntie Jan cuts the ribbon at newly remodelled Nine Giants
A NEWLY-REOPENED Cardiff pub honoured its longest serving team member.
The Nine Giants, Llanishen, has honoured Janet Rees, 59, from Llanishen, after the pub reopened as a new Sizzling Pub & Grill on Thursday, October 18, following an extensive remodel.
The Llanishen Pub & Grill celebrated its reopening by inviting Janet, who is retiring after 40 years of service to spend more time with her grandchildren, to officially reopen the new look pub – making her the guest of honour at a ceremonial ribbon cutting.
Located on Thornhill Road, the refreshed Nine Giants resumed serving guests after an extensive two-week refurbishment.
Speaking about reopening the Nine Giants, Janet, said: “I’m thrilled to have been given the honour of officially reopening The Nine Giants and, having worked at the pub for 40 years, it’s so exciting to see the Nine Giants beginning this new chapter.
“While I’m looking forward to spending more time with my grandchildren, I’ll be very sad to say goodbye to the pub that has become like a second home to me and the colleagues who have become like a second family – so this is such a lovely way for me to mark my retirement!”
General manager Joshua Reynolds said: “We were thrilled to have Janet cut the ceremonial ribbon for us. Janet (or Auntie Jan as she’s known by her colleagues) has worked at the Nine Giants for an incredible 40 years, making her our longest standing team member.
“Janet is a well-respected pillar of the local community and has helped raise money for local children and charities.
“Everyone knows and loves Jan and she will be missed by many, so it’s fitting for her to be chosen as our Local Hero and here to officially reopen the pub as it begins a new phase in its history.
