Linnets aiming to keep title challenge going

WELSH PREMIER

-

BARRY Town have the chance to maintain their challenge for the JD Welsh Premier League when they host lowly Llandudno Town at Jenner Park on Sunday (2.30 pm).

Gavin Chesterfield’s Linnets kept the pressure on TNS and Connahs Quay at the top last weekend when a Mamoudo Toure goal at Bala gave Barry an away win, while the top two were drawing at Caernarfon and Newtown respectively.

Llandudno started the season as one of the favourites for a top-six finish, but it hasn’t turned out that way as the North Walians are just outside the relegation places and in midweek they suffered a 6-0 to thumping at the hands of TNS in the league cup.

Barry’s red-hot form at Jenner this season, where they have a 100% home success, says the transformation under the guidance of Chesterfield should keep pointing towards potential title challengers.

Cardiff Met University travel to Bala Town tomorrow to play their clash at Maes Tegid in front of the S4C cameras (7.30 pm).

Christian Edwards’ students will travel north with confidence after a terrific quarter-final win in midweek in the MG Cup where they trounced Haverfordwest 6-0.

Fit-again centre forward Adam Roscrow scored a brace, while his striking partner, Sam Snaith, was also on target.

Elliott Evans and a Tim Parker double late on saw the Archers progress to a semi-final tie against Connahs Quay Nomads.

The all-round performance and the return of key players must give the Cyncoed team a chance against Colin Caton’s Bala, who lost their 100 percent home record against Barry.

A 90th-minute goal by Connahs Quay in the Cup meant it was two defeats in four days for Bala, so tomorrow night’s live TV game could ask questions about their chances of sustaining a challenge to the top three in in the league.
