Real fans not impressed by Bale’s displays

-

REAL Madrid fans have voted Wales star Gareth Bale as their worst performing player of the 2018/19 season so far.

Los Blancos have endured a torrid start to the campaign and made the decision to sack Julen Lopetegui as their manager on Monday, little more than 24 hours after their humiliating 5-1 El Clasico loss to Barcelona at the Nou Camp.

Bale has copped plenty of flak from Madridistas and was even blamed for Lopetegui’s sacking by club icon Jorge Valdano.

In the aftermath of Lopetegui’s departure, Spanish media outlet Marca ran a poll for supporters to vote on which Galactico they felt had underperformed the most so far this season.

And Welshman Bale topped the pile, amassing more than 56,000 votes to date.

He has accrued more votes than club captain Sergio Ramos and fellow attacker Karim Benzema who finished second and third in the poll respectively.

The author of the article wrote: “Bale, who was supposed to be the leader of this team after Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit, leads the ranking with over 43,000 votes.

“The Welshman has only managed four goals and in recent matches he has been completely anonymous.”

Bale scored four times in his first six matches for the Spanish giants this season but has failed to find the back of the net in his last six appearances for the club.

Real Madrid currently sit in ninth place in La Liga, seven points adrift of rivals Barcelona with 10 games played.

They secured a 4-0 Copa del Rey win over Melilla on Wednesday night in their first match under caretaker boss Santiago Solari – though Bale didn’t play. Marca poll on Real Madrid’s worst performing players of the season (Number of votes accrued correct at time of publishing)
