HEAD NOISE

-

Introduce us to Head Noise – who is in the band?

We are Head Noise from Aberdare and Mountain Ash, an electronic art-punk trio consisting of me – Mitch Tennant on keytar/vocals, Wayne Bassett on guitar/ electronics and Jordan Brill on guitar/bass. We’ve released two EPs, a single and a mini-album to date.

How did you get together?

We formed the group as an experimental project to soundtrack my father’s art exhibition in Merthyr Tydfil in March 2016. We were hoping just to create a bit of background ambience to complement the paintings but we ended up being circled by a crowd of curious onlookers.

How would you describe your music to the uninitiated?

If you are a fan of some glitchy electronics combined with the energy of punk rock then I think that you’ll enjoy the peculiar noises that we make.

What is your earliest musical memory?

When I was growing up I was obsessed with Monty Python so I’d always be singing things like The Lumberjack Song and confusing the majority of my friends who were more into the Spice Girls and playing Pokémon cards.

What made you want to pick up an instrument and play?

I think discovering the whole punk rock movement as a teenager properly got me into making music. I loved the fact that you didn’t need to be very skilled or articulate with your instrument to make catchy and fun music, as long as you had passion.

What was the first record you bought?

The first ‘real’ album I bought was Never Mind The B ****** s by the Sex Pistols from Woolworths in Aberdare. The first record I actually bought was something like Vengaboys, but I try to repress those memories.

What was the first gig you attended?

My first gig was seeing Franz Ferdinand at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff in 2005. The atmosphere was electric. It really inspired me to pick up a bass guitar and start rocking out.

What’s the best gig/s you’ve been to?

Some of my favourites were Iggy & The Stooges, Does It Offend You Yeah?, The Cribs, Kraftwerk, We Are The Physics and Mercury Rev.

What’s the best gig you’ve played?

When Head Noise supported Wolf Alice at the Muni in Pontypridd. The crowd were very welcoming and it was overwhelming to see people dancing along to our music.

Who would be your dream artiste to work with?

Mark Mothersbaugh from Devo or David Bowie producer Tony Visconti. Mind you, we’d love to have some guest vocals from Cindy Wilson (The B-52s) or Dick Valentine (Electric Six).

What’s for the future?

Our new mini-album is out now and we’re looking to release more music very, very soon.
