WHEN 4K JUST ISN’T ENOUGH

I HAVE to admit, I was happy with my standard definition TV. Then HD came along, and then 4K UHD.

I’m sure you will have noticed that the tech world is nothing if not consistent with its relentless desire to do better.

Which brings us to Samsung’s 8K TV, pictured. Just for comparison, while you’ll find a pixel count of 3,840 x 2,160 on a 4K TV, the 8K model ups the ante with a resolution of 7,680 x 4,320.

Now, that many pixels are only really valuable as you get bigger and bigger screens – you don’t need that many on a standard 32in.

That’s why Samsung’s new 8K TVs – the only ones you can buy in the world right now – only come in whopping sizes: 65, 75, and 85-inch models.

Apparently, TV screen sizes are on the up, and Samsung is betting big time with these new models that they’re only going to get bigger. I think they’re right.

Of course, if you want to get in the act on the ground floor, it’s going to cost you – the new 8K TVs start at £4,999.99. But at least you’ll be able to say you were there when the revolution began.

TWITTER MIGHT NOT LIKE ANYMORE

IT SEEMS Twitter may be about to fall out of love with likes. That simple tap of the heart is not liked by Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, inset, he revealed in an interview this week. In fact, he said he wanted to ditch it “soon”.

Why? Well, the Twitter boss seems to think the addictive need for likes is a driving force for bad behaviour on the network… even though users are not convinced. And as soon as Dorsey’s comments were made, there was the typical overblown outcry, and Twitter seemed to backtrack on its leader’s comments.

Brandon Borrman, Twitter’s comms boss said: “We’ve been open that we’re considering it. Jack even mentioned it in front of the US Congress. There’s no timeline. It’s not happening ‘soon.’”

So, they’re thinking about it. But don’t expect it to happen tomorrow…
