Youngsters’ hard work recognised
YOUNG people who achieved outstanding academic results have been recognised at a community event. Members of the community gathered at the Butetown Pavilion, on Dumballs Road, Cardiff, to celebrate and recognise the achievements of local young people on Monday.
Awards were presented to 30 young people for outstanding academic achievements at GCSE, A-level, undergraduate and post-graduate level.
Five young people also received awards for their dedication and commitment to community engagement.
Jas Bains, chief executive of Hafod, said: “We were really keen to host this event to celebrate and recognise the tremendous talent and inspire the community to achieve their goals.
“It also signalled the start of a great partnership which will see us supporting the creation of a youth forum to empower young people and hear what matters to them and an open day to promote training and employment opportunities at Hafod.”
Speeches were made at the event by Hilary Brown, a lawyer, Councillor Saeed Ebrahim, ward member for Butetown, Cllr Lynda Thorne Cabinet Member for Housing and Communities, and Jas Bains. Cllr Saeed Ebrahim said: “I’d like to thank Hafod for organising this fantastic event which really showcased the achievements of the young people in Butetown.”
