Q

I WANT to remove the oak veneer from my MDF kitchen cupboard doors and paint them. What do you recommend?

A

THE veneer should just pull off easily, then sand off any glue and simply apply a primer, undercoat (two coats if required) and a top coat of your choice. I’d go for a waterbased acrylic paint as it’s tough and easy to apply using a mini roller.

Q

BLACK marks are appearing on the walls and ceiling of my bathroom. How can I sort it?

A

Amanda Terry

MOISTURE from steam is getting into the plasterboard of the wall. You could use a fungicidal wash to kill the mould, then use a waterproof paint – but I’m not keen on the finish of these. If it was me, I’d tile the full bathroom floor to ceiling.

Q

I’VE had a white oak staircase fitted and want to apply a matt finish. Is Osmo oil any good? Maureen Latchford

A

OSMO oil is probably the best product around and if you like the finish of your staircase and don’t want to paint or stain it, go for Osmo clear oil or wax.

THE glass top of our cooker is scratched. What will remove it?

Bob Taylor

IF it’s not deep, squirt WD40 and hey presto, the scratch is gone.
