BRACE yourselves – even hardened viewers have been known to crack during this, the most emotional TV event of the year. The 19th annual Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards, in partnershi­p with TSB, returns with a host of famous faces, all ready to honour ordinary Brits who have done extraordin­ary things.

Prince Charles, Jeremy Corbyn, Simon Cowell, Robbie and Ayda Williams, Louis Tomlinson, Olly Murs, Anthony Joshua, Ellie Goulding, Paul O’Grady, Major

Tim Peake, Paddy McGuinness, Sheridan Smith and Sir Cliff Richard were among the celebritie­s applauding the deserving winners.

TV favourites from Coronation Street, Strictly Come Dancing and The X Factor were joined by giants of sport, comedy and politics as more than 100 of our biggest stars gathered at London’s Grosvenor House to pay tribute to the nation’s unsung heroes.

Hosted brilliantl­y as ever by Carol Vorderman, the show is packed with inspiring and uplifting stories that had the celebrity audience laughing and crying.

The incredible winners range from 11-year-old Ella Chadwick, who suffers from a rare kidney disease but has raised thousands for charity, to 14-year-old Joe Rowlands who saved his dad’s life after their kayak capsized, and 10-year-old Max Johnson, who was instrument­al in changing the law on organ donation.

The men and women of the RAF were also honoured, as well as an inspiratio­nal pensioner who runs a soup kitchen and a man whose lifelong fight against childhood cancer is simply astonishin­g.

With brilliant celebrity surprises and deserving winners, it all makes for two hours of truly unmissable and life-affirming TV.
