Fashioning ways to help charity

-

A WOMAN who raised thousands of pounds for Tenovus Cancer Care is the winner of this week’s Bouquet of the Week.

Jane Miles, from Whitchurch, was diagnosed with breast cancer 21 years ago, and was supported by the charity throughout her treatment.

In a way to give back, Jayne has since dedicated her time to work with the charity.

Jane, 63, is a member of the Cardiff North Tenovous Cancer Care Choir and through that helped set up a group with friends who raise money through various events throughout the year. One of those was a two-day fashion show in October, which Jane organised. Clothes from the Tenovus charity shops were modelled and members of the choir – who have all been touched by cancer – showcased the outfits. The events raised £5,000.

Speaking of her nomination, Jane said: “It’s so lovely, I wasn’t expecting to be nominated.

“I first heard about Tenovus when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. They supported me throughout my treatment and afterwards. They’re just brilliant.”

Jane and the choir have also organised pantomimes, coffee mornings and pub quizzes - all in the name of charity.

“I love doing it,” continued Jane. “When I first joined the choir I thought to myself, ‘oh I don’t know if this is something I’m going on enjoy,’ but I love it and I’m very involved now.”

Jane, who works part-time in a shop, was nominated by Rhiwbina councillor Jayne Cowan.

Ms Cowan said: “Jane is a wonderful person, she’s one of the nicest people you could meet.

“She raised thousands with the fashion shows and she really deserves this.”
