Pensioner left with serious injuries after road collision
AN ELDERLY woman sustained serious and life-threatening injuries in a collision in Treorchy yesterday afternoon.
South Wales Police said they were investigating a serious road traffic collision which occurred just after 2.15pm.
They said an 81-year-old woman was hit by a car and is fighting for her life.
The accident on Stag Square in Treorchy meant High Street had to close for several hours.
A member of staff at Bryant Dental Practice said the area was gridlocked from 2pm.
She said: “The area has been cordoned off since 2pm. A customer came in and told us that a crash had happened.
“Police and ambulance have been at the scene along with an air ambulance.”
A police statement said: “The collision occurred at the junction of High Street and the A4061 in Treorchy, known locally as
Stag Square, and involved a red Ford Ecosport and a female pedestrian.
“The 81-year-old pedestrian has sustained serious and life-threatening injuries and is currently being treated at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.
“The road remained closed for approximately three and a half hours to allow investigative work to be conducted.
“South Wales Police would like to thank the local community for their patience and understanding during this time.
