■■On Saturday, November 17, there is a Christmas Fayre at St German’s Church Hall, Cardiff. Father Christmas will be in his grotto waiting to welcome children to have their photograph taken with him and there will be a host of stalls selling games, books, cakes, pickles and jams, etc. There will be a grand Christmas raffle and refreshments including hot dogs and chips with tea, coffee and soft drinks. Doors open at 11am until 1pm. The church hall is next to the Grade I listed Church of St German in Star Street, Adamsdown, and there is free car parking at the side of the hall. Starting at Christmas, St German’s will again be joining with other Cardiff churches to provide a night shelter for the homeless.

■■It is about 35 years ago that Park End Church, Rhydypenau crossroads, started a Christmas sale of fair trade products. Since then, the annual event has grown into a much enjoyed part of community life, run by a team of volunteers. The hall is filled with a wide range of fair trade products – foods, cards, calendars, Christmas decorations, jewellery, adult and baby clothing, toys, soaps, homeware, etc. The best sellers include wooden Christmas decorations made in Bethlehem, and comfy socks made of eco friendly bamboo. The crafts are handmade and of a high quality. Fair trade refreshments will be served all day. This year’s fair trade sale is on Saturday, November 17, 10am until 4.30pm.
