BEST OF THE REST

-

THE BISEXUAL Channel4, 10pm

IT’S the morning after the night before and everything seems to be back on track for Sadie and Leila in this final episode.

But just as Leila begins to raise her hopes, Sadie (Maxine Peake) says she thinks it was all a big mistake. Sadie also has a big revelation for Leila (Desiree Akhavan), one that leaves her knocked for six and questioning everything.

Leila turns to Gabe (Brian Gleeson) for a shoulder to cry on. It turns out Gabe is having some relationship troubles too. His girlfriend is frankly horrible and only with him for his notoriety in certain circles.

As Leila and Gabe lean on each other, a relationship born in awkwardness evolves into one of genuine friendship.

This has been a painfully funny and occasionally filthy series, one based on writer Desiree’s own experiences about coming out as bisexual. It was turned down in America, but we’ve been happy to have it here.

JAMES BULGER: THE NEW REVELATIONS

Channel 5, 9pm

TWENTY five years ago this month, Robert Thompson and Jon Venables were found guilty of the murder of two-year-old James Bulger, at the end of a trial that shocked the nation.

The horrific and senseless murder of the tot, who was snatched from a Liverpool shopping centre on February 12, 1993, caused a public outcry, with the nation clamouring for Thompson and Venables to be locked up for life.

A quarter of a century on, there is still no explanation as to what drove the two ten-year-old boys to torture and kill James.

This documentary offers an insight into the motivation. It reveals a trail of papers collected over many years, from the boys’ arrest to their release at the age of 18.

Comprising testimony evidence from those close to the case, the documents are new evidence, presenting another piece in the puzzle of what drove Thompson and Venables to murder.
