A MAN has been left with serious injuries after falling from a bridge onto the M4 in an incident which is now being assessed by the police watchdog.
South Wales Police was in attendance at an incident on the A4119 near Cardiff at around 10.35pm on Friday, where a man fell onto the hard shoulder of the motorway.
The 27-year-old man sustained serious injuries and remained in hospital on Saturday afternoon.
The man is believed to have fallen from Llantrisant Road onto the M4.
A second person was also taken to hospital. A police spokeswoman said the matter has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
An IOPC spokesman said they are “assessing” the refferal.
The IOPC’s website says they investigate “the most serious and sensitive incidents and allegations involving the police”.
At around 11pm on Friday, police issued a statement saying they were at an incident on the M4 and the road was closed between junction 32 and 34 westbound.
They asked the public to avoid the area and take alternative routes where possible.
Later at around 2.30am on Saturday, police said the motorway had reopened.
