A 10-YEAR-OLD boy suffered deep wounds to his body after he was attacked by a dog.

Oliver Williams from Rhymney was playing rugby on a green space in Tredegar with his sixyear-old brother and his grandad when the attack happened on Sunday afternoon.

Oliver’s father Nathan Williams said Oliver was playing on a field across the road from his grandfather’s house.

He said: “He was playing rugby when all of a sudden a dog attacked him and wouldn’t let go.

“Their grandfather tried to intervene and started punching the dog. His dog jumped in and started distracting it.

“Oliver grabbed his little brother and ran to their house around the corner.

“The dog was fighting the other dog but left it and ran after the boys.

“They ran through the door and the boys ran in screaming. My wife ran outside and tried to push it and was screaming.

“She used a bin as a shield. The dog then saw a man across the road with his dog and it went to attack. He threw his dog over the wall.”

Grandfather Philip Oakley, 59, punched the dog to get it off Oliver but was left with fractured wrists and needed stitches.

Dad Nathan then says he heard from another man the dog was bundled into the boot of a car which the owner drove away.

Nathan said he was told it was a pitbull breed.

Oliver spent two days at the Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr Tydfil after needing stitches for cuts on his buttocks and arms.

Oliver was also bitten on his shoulder. Now he’s been left terrified.

“He didn’t want to come home from hospital,” dad Nathan said.

“He heard they still haven’t caught the dog. His six-year-old brother is very shaken up.”

A spokesman for Gwent Police said: “At approximately 3.25pm on Sunday, November 18, 2018, we received reports that a boy had been bitten by a dog in Oakland Terrace, Rhymney.

“Officers have spoken with the dog’s owner, and investigations are ongoing.”
