Perfect roasts

16 dinners that Sundays were made for

-

WE know that no one makes a roast that’s as good as your mam’s, but here are our picks of the places we think do some of the best Sunday dinners in Cardiff (in no particular order).

1. Heathcock

A newbie to the Cardiff food scene, The Heathcock brings the classic Sunday lunch from the Hare & Hounds at Aberthin (its sister pub) into the capital with a bang.

Succulent Torgelly beef is totally lush, but the opportunity to tuck into one of their sharing dishes, like braised lamb or whole brill must not be missed.

2. Heaney’s

Another recent addition to Cardiff’s dining scene and the lamb with anchovies is unmissable. It comes with all the trimmings, which are also very nice.

Where: 6-10 Romilly Crescent, Cardiff CF11 9NR

3. The Flora

In the heart of studentville, The Flora is the yummy place to take the parents when they visit for Sunday lunch.

It’s not just for students, though, but do make sure you book as it gets full.

Where: 136 Cathays Terrace, Cardiff CF24 4HY

Book: 029 2115 1016 theflora.co.uk

4. Society Standard

You’d know if you followed this Whitchurch Road bar on Instagram that they love doing roasts and are pretty efficient at making multiple Yorkshire puddings.

Choose from beef sirloin, pork loin – or both!

5. The Grange

The CAMRA pub of the year also does brilliant food and, like its sister pub The Lansdowne, serves a mean Sunday dinner.

Check out their cauli cheese and roasties.

Set in a classic Victorian townhouse, The Cricketers offers a seasonal menu and only uses local suppliers.

There’s great variety on the Sunday lunch set menu (two courses for £16.50, three for £20), ranging from the traditional roast beef with Yorkshire pudding to their popular Cricketers’ beef burger topped with cwrw rarebit, smoked bacon, onion rings and tomato jam.

7. The Old Cottage

Go for the three-meat roast option – sirloin of beef, pork and chicken with crackling and stuffing wrapped in bacon. There’s one-meat roasts on offer too, so don’t worry.
