WHITE HOUSE DOWN Tonight, Channel 5, 10.10pm

EX-SOLDIER John Cale (Channing Tatum) is assigned to protect Speaker of the House Eli Raphelson (Richard Jenkins), when he would much rather be part of the Secret Service detail guarding President James Sawyer (Jamie Foxx). An interview for promotion goes badly and John licks his wounds by joining his daughter (Joey King) on a guided tour of the White House – just as a paramilita­ry group led by Emil Stenz (Jason Clarke) prepares to take control of the building. With the President’s life in the balance, John gets a chance to prove himself after all. This action thriller was overshadow­ed by the similar Olympus Has Fallen, but it’s more fun.

AS AN orphan growing up in 1990s LA, Adonis Johnson (Alex Henderson) ricochets between juvenile detention centres and care homes. He never knew his father, boxing legend Apollo Creed, who died in the ring before he was born, but the sport is in his blood. Adonis (now played by Michael B Jordan, pictured) seeks out Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone), hoping that he will train him.

MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET Monday, Film4, 6.35pm

THE perfect film to get you in the festive mood, even if it is still November. A woman (Elizabeth Perkins) raises her daughter (Mara Wilson) not to believe in the magic of Christmas or the existence of Santa Claus. However, they both question their beliefs when they meet a snowy-bearded pensioner (Richard Attenborou­gh, pictured with Wilson) who claims to be the man himself.

THE MARTIAN Tuesday, Film4, 9pm

THE six-strong crew of the Ares 3, led by Melissa Lewis (Jessica Chastain), are gathering samples on Mars when a storm hits. During the trek back to the ship, botanist Mark Watney (Matt Damon, pictured) is hit by debris. Believing him to be dead, the crew blasts off without him, but Watney is still alive. On Earth, NASA top brass let Mark know the cavalry is coming – but can he last until they arrive?

THE OTHER BOLEYN GIRL Wednesday, Film4, 6.35pm

THE court of Henry VIII (Eric Bana) is a dangerous and seductive place – as Mary Boleyn (Scarlett Johansson, pictured) discovers when she catches the king’s eye and becomes his mistress. While she gives her heart to the handsome ruler, her ambitious sister Anne (Natalie Portman), helped by the girls’ power-hungry father (Mark Rylance), sets out to secure Henry’s affections – and a crown.

NOW YOU SEE ME Thursday, Film4, 6.45pm

HIGH-STAKES game of cat and mouse between four illusionis­ts and law-enforcemen­t. Stage act The Four Horsemen (Jesse Eisenberg, Isla Fisher, Woody Harrelson and Dave Franco, pictured) magically raid millions from a bank vault in front of a live audience. Within hours, however, the performers are under arrest and facing interrogat­ion by an FBI agent (Mark Ruffalo).

HAVING YOU Friday, BBC1, 11.50pm

BROADCHURC­H’S Andrew Buchan (pictured) stars as recovering alcoholic Jack, whose life seems to be back on track when he proposes to his girlfriend Camilla (Romola Garai). However, when he runs into Anna (Anna Friel), with whom he once had a one-night stand, Jack learns that he is the father of her seven-year-old son. To make the situation more fraught, Camilla is struggling with infertilit­y.
