Proposal for more homes after 440 approved near village
PLANS have been submitted for yet more houses near a village in Rhondda Cynon Taff in the week that more than 400 were approved nearby.
An application for 34 affordable homes has been made by Hafod Housing Association for land north of the A473 at Heol Creigiau, Llantwit Fardre.
It comes just as plans for 440 homes at Ystrad Barwig Isaf Farm were approved by Rhondda Cynon Taf’s planning and development committee last week despite hundreds of objections from residents and a previous application being thrown out by Welsh Government last year because of concerns over flooding.
But Hafod says this approval establishes the principle of developing outside settlement boundaries in the area and highlights the acceptance of the pressing need for new homes within RCT. It also says there is little risk of flooding at the site of the proposed development.
The 34 homes would be served by 62 car parking spaces and Hafod claims the proposal will not have an unacceptable effect on the character or appearance of the area through increased traffic or congestion.
In its design and access statement, Hafod says: “The proposals form a highquality residential development, wellrelated to the existing settlement, and meets local housing need.
“The proposals incorporate a suitable provision of public open space and car parking to ensure residential amenity is high and encourages a balanced residential community through the proposed housing mix.
“The proposed development is deemed to lift the overall design quality of homes in the Llantwit Fardre settlement and is felt to be acceptable in design terms.”
