Points, prizes are on offer in weekend event

THE East Region WFSA hold their annual open competitio­n at Cold Knap and Porthkerry on Sunday where there’s another chance to gain Garry Evans Seamaster and Penn points.

Fishing times are 12-5pm and the first prize is £300 donated by Treforest Tiling LTD.

The second and third prizes of £200 and £100 has been donated by the East Region WFSA plus many other goodies up for grabs.

Entry fee for seniors is £10 with two optional £1 pools for heaviest bag and best whiting.

Junior entry is free where they will fish for their individual prize table.

Booking in prior to the match is at main tackle shops and on the day at the Cwm Ciddy Inn, in Barry, from 9-11am.

Weigh-in is back at the Cwm Ciddy Inn by 6pm.

Four teams from Wales made the journey to Norfolk last weekend to fish the two-day annual National Shore League event.

The field of 165 anglers consisting of 33 five-man teams from all over the country took part.

Although no teams from Wales came in the top 10 team placings, Welsh individual team members came away with zone and super pool money.

On the first day, Phil George fishing for the Garry Evans Match Team picked up £60 for coming sixth in the super pool category.

Zone prizes on the first day went to Cardiff’s Joe Arch fishing for a England-based Prime Angling and James Madsen representi­ng Channel Angers 1. Both came fifth in their zones and received £40. Phil also picked up £60 for coming second in his zone.

On day two, Joe came fifth in the super pool winning £50.

Zone prizes when to Craig Maddox fishing for the Gwent Beer Bellies where he topped his zone and won £100 pool money.

Joe also topped his zone and won £100.

Nev Evans, who also fishes for the Beer Bellies, managed a fourth place zone and won £50.

Shaun Tucker fishing for Channel Anglers managed a third zone placing.

In the top overall individual table Joe was runner-up receiving £80.

The overall team winners were Prime Angling, who picked up £2,200 first prize.

The team members are based in Hastings with the exception of former world champion Joe Arch.

Barry-based club Seaview Lads fished at Llantwit Major.

In first place was Joe Gallivan with 8lb 11ozs with Kevin Sala second after netting 8lb 1ozs. Third was Paul Crook with 7lb 4ozs.

Newport SAC fished at St Brides. In first place was Ryan Davies with one flounder for 0.55kgs. Second spot went to Dave Lloyd, whose one flounder weighed 0.46kgs.

The next match is at Severn Bridge, on Saturday from noon-4pm.

Penarth fished their local beach and Colin Boagey was the only angler to get a bite with his 5lb 11oz conger eel giving him a second win in row.

The Welsh Federation of Sea Anglers are holding their quarterly meeting on December 8 at Elan Valley Centre, Rhayader (1030).

All affiliated clubs are encouraged to attend.
