Penybont facing a huge clash with Cwmamman

WELSH LEAGUE

-

PENYBONT have opened up a twopoint lead at the top of the Nathaniel Cars Welsh League Division One and will look to increase their advantage over the chasing pack when they travel to fifth-placed Cwmamman United tomorrow.

Rhys Griffiths’ squad have been the model of consistency to date, which has enabled them to claim top spot despite playing three games less than second-placed Afan Lido.

Should Cwmamman produce an upset tomorrow then the gap between themselves and the league leaders could be cut down to three points, but an away win for Penybont would make it nine which makes the game a massive fixture in the course of the title race.

When the clubs met a month ago at the same venue in the Nathaniel Cars Welsh League Cup, Bont gained a slender 2-1 win with Cullen Kinsella and Stephen Morris the goal scorers.

Pontypridd Town will host the Nathaniel MG Cup finalists Cambrian and Clydach tomorrow and will hope not to find Dane Williams’ team in the form which accounted for The New Saints in the semi-final last week after extra time.

Ponty put in a spirited effort for their new boss Shaun Wharton last weekend before being edged out by Afan Lido 2-1.

Ton Pentre head west to Ammanford looking to put last weekend’s 5-0 defeat to Britton Ferry behind them.

Bottom club Taffs Well welcome Haverfordwest County to Rhiw Dda tomorrow while Llantwit Major host Goytre at their Windmill Lane Ground.

Caerau Ely are the form team in Division Two at present after their excellent 2-1 away win over league leaders Croesyceillog last weekend.

Elijah Chilekwa’s brace meant Craig Sampson’s team climb into third place in the table, five points behind the leaders with three games in hand.

Caerau face another trip to east tomorrow when they face Monmouth.

STM Sports host Caldicot Town tomorrow at Llanrumney University.

The St Mellons club can keep the top-five within their grasp with a home win.

Gavin Price’s 14-game reign as boss of Dinas Powys came to an end this week with him stepping down after their decent 3-2 home win over Llwydcoed. And Dinas Powys face a difficult trip, without the former Aston Villa man to Swansea University tomorrow.

League leaders in Division Three, Trethomas Bluebirds, visit Porth tomorrow, Penydarren travel to Panteg and bottom-of-the-table Ely Rangers host Tredegar Town at Station Road.
