OFFICERS investigating the disappearance of a man believed to have been murdered continued their search of a wooded area in Cardiff yesterday.

There was a heavy police presence in Pentwyn close to the A48 Western Avenue and near Pentwyn Leisure Centre for most of Saturday and yesterday.

A spokeswoman for South Wales Police said officers are searching the area in connection with the investigation into the suspected murder of 24-year-old Mohamed Megherbi.

He was last seen nearly eight weeks ago on October 9 at his home in Roath. Police have said he was involved in a “domestic incident” on the day he was last seen.

Witnesses say they saw forensic police tents in the area of Parc Coed y Nant and dozens of officers and police vans have been seen in the area. According to eyewitnesses, there has been police activity in Pentwyn since Friday afternoon.

One witness, who wishes to remain anonymous, said he has driving past the area in his lorry and saw lots of police officers and a forensic team.

He said: “I was in my lorry, so I could see right over the bushes. I drove past yesterday at about 12.30pm and there were a lot of police in the area. When I went past again at 5am there were more police officers and forensic people in white suits with a white forensic van. There were lots of them and they were still there in the afternoon.

“I saw five or six white tents and one big blue tent.”

South Wales Police issued a number of appeals for information about Mr Megherbi, who is originally from Algeria.

On November 24, 26-year-old Kane Burns from Llanedeyrn, Cardiff, appeared at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court having been charged with Mr Megherbi’s murder.

A spokesperson for the force said: “South Wales Police investigating the murder of 24-year-old Mohamed Megherbi are currently searching an area of land near Pentwyn Leisure Centre in Cardiff. Mr Megherbi has not been seen Since Tuesday, October 9, in Roath.”
