BODY FOUND BY MURDER POLICE

A BODY has been found in the search for a man believed to have been murdered in Cardiff.

Police made the discovery near Pentwyn Leisure Centre on Friday during an investigat­ion into the murder of 24-year-old Mohamed Megherbi. Mr Megherbi, who is from Algeria and had been living on Newport Road in Roath, had not been seen since Tuesday, October 9.

Kane Burns, 26, from Llanedeyrn, has been remanded in custody charged with his murder after appearing at Cardiff Magistrate­s’ Court on November 24.

South Wales Police last night said the body had not been formally identified. Tests are now being carried out alongside a specialist search of the area.

Last night’s announceme­nt comes after a number of forensic tents were spotted in the area of Parc Coed Y Nant over the weekend.

Police are now asking for help from people who may have seen anything suspicious.

Detective Chief Inspector Gareth Morgan, of the South Wales Police Major Crime Investigat­ion Team, said: “On Friday afternoon police search teams located a human body concealed within the woodland.

“The body has not been formally identified but tests are being carried out along with a specialist search of the area.

“We are grateful for the support of the local community while our investigat­ion continues and are also appealing for informatio­n.

“In particular, we are keen to speak to anyone who walks through this woodland and may have heard or seen anything suspicious recently.”
