Slovakia first up for Wales in Euro campaign

-

WALES’ fixtures for Euro 2020 qualifying have been announced.

Wales start their campaign at home against Slovakia on March 24 before an away double header against Croatia and Hungary in June.

They’ll finish the campaign at home to Hungary on November 19.

Ryan Giggs’ side were drawn alongside Croatia, Slovakia, Hungary and Azerbaijan in Group E, a fairly tricky draw but one that Wales will be confident of negotiating to secure a place at the finals.

The draw also means the ‘Red Wall’ will travel to cities like Zagreb, Bratislava, Budapest and Baku in support of their team.

On the draw, Giggs said: “Obviously you want the easier groups, the easier teams to play against but generally we’ve got to be happy with the group, it’s a competitive group and travelling isn’t too bad.

“It could have been better, could have been worse. Croatia will rightly be favourites with what they’ve achieved.

“We’ll need to play well to come through this group, a fiveteam group is probably an advantage with not as many games.

“Overall, I’m happy.” Fixtures: Wales v Slovakia, 24 March; Croatia v Wales, 8 June; Hungary v Wales, 11 June; Wales v Azerbaijan, 6 September; Slovakia v Wales, 10 October;’Wales v Croatia, 13 October; Azerbaijan v Wales, 16 November; Wales v Hungary, 19 November
