■■Cardiff former Currans apprentice­s are invited to the annual reunion at the Gatekeeper pub in Westgate Street, Cardiff, on Monday, February 11. The reunion is organised by Brian Thompson, who was an apprentice in 1956. The event will start at noon. For more informatio­n call 029 2039 4775.

■■The South Wales Geologists Associatio­n lecture with Prof Mark Williams from Leicester University takes place on Saturday, February 16, at 11am. He will speak on the subject of “Wholesale reconfigur­ation of the biosphere in the Anthropoce­ne”. The meeting begins at 11am in the Wallace Building of Swansea University’s Singleton site (https://sewrigs.files. wordpress.com/2018/10/ swansea university wallace building. png), and refreshmen­ts will be served from about 10.15am. ■■Military whist takes place on Saturday, February 16, in Rhiwbina Memorial Hall, Lon Ucha, CF14 6HL at 6.45pm. Admission (£5) includes buffet. Tickets in advance from the hall on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday evenings, 6.45pm-9pm, or phone 07788 929 669.

■■ St Mark’s Church, 206 North Road, Gabalfa, Cardiff CF14 3BL is starting a Dementia Friendly Church initiative for people living with dementia and their carers. The first event will be on April 5 and then on the first Friday of every month thereafter. After a welcome from 10.30am, there will be a short service at 11am, followed by an activity for the person with dementia while the carers have a support group. Finishing with a simple lunch.

■■Archaeolog­y Cymru meets at 11.30am every Tuesday at the Canonhill artspace at the back lane of Canon Street and St Nicholas Road, Barry. The meetings are examining the archaeolog­y and history of Barry. A weekly donation of £5 per person is asked for. For further details please contact 07437 747402 or just turn up.
