Man left with serious injury after incident

A 21-YEAR-OLD man was taken to hospital in the early hours of this morning with a serious head injury after an incident in the centre of Tredegar.

Two arrests were made after the incident on Castle Street at about 12.55am yesterday.

The man was taken to the University Hospital of Wales. His condition is unknown.

Police were called following reports of disorder in the area. An investigat­ion has been launched and officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Two men, one 22 and the other 28, were arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.

Local people reported a heavy police presence in the area at about 1am, with forensics officers at the scene later.

The road around Castle Street and the town’s clock was closed yesterday morning as police continued their investigat­ions.

Detective Inspector Leigh Holborn said: “An investigat­ion is now under way and we currently have officers in the area carrying out a number of lines of inquiry and providing reassuranc­e to the local community. I would ask anyone who may have witnessed the incident or may have filmed or taken images on their mobile devices, to please get in touch, as they may be able to help us with our inquiries and help us build a picture of what has happened.”

Police are urging motorists who were in the area to check dash cam footage that could provide them with further informatio­n.
