Hogan back as Glammy go fishing for Sharks

-

SEAMER Michael Hogan has returned to the Glamorgan squad for their Vitality Blast fixture against the Sussex Sharks at Hove tonight (7pm).

Hogan has been suffering from a thigh injury and proved his match fitness by playing for Newport in the South Wales Premier League on Saturday, where he claimed 3-35 in his 10 overs.

Batsman Kiran Carlson returns to the squad to bolster the batting options after scoring a half-century for the 2nd XI last week against Hampshire.

After an eventful week where he bowled the final over in the extraordinary tie against Gloucestershire, bowler Lukas Carey is delighted with the added responsibilities he has been given with the ball this season.

“It was nice to be trusted to bowl the final over,” said Carey. “It was a very nervous experience, but I backed my skills.

“I was disappointed to not win the game for us, but I think a tie was a fair result on the day. Having added responsibility really brings out the best in me and I was happy to show that I can be trusted in high pressure situations.

“At the end I was annoyed that I couldn’t get us over the line, I wanted to get that win for the boys as we have been working really hard and the results just haven’t come.

“We focus on Sussex next, and it will be a tough game. They are a great side, but we have lots of confidence after our win in the One-Day Cup there earlier this year, and I think we have the talent to turn them over again.”
