■■The Transporte­r Bridge has dominated Newport’s skyline for 113 years, but why was it built and what does its future hold? Come to Rhydypenna­u Library on Wednesday, August 14, to discover the stories of the men who designed the bridge, who built the bridge, the people who used it and the plans for redevelopm­ent. Project officer Emma Newrick will go a journey through time and over the River Usk. Free event but donations welcome and booking essential.

■■The Open Door Club for senior citizens is held at Christ the King Parish Centre, Newborough Avenue, Llanishen, Cardiff, every third Thursday of the month, 2-4pm. Free tea/coffee and biscuits, fellowship, conversati­on, raffle and entertainm­ent.
