■■The Transporter Bridge has dominated Newport’s skyline for 113 years, but why was it built and what does its future hold? Come to Rhydypennau Library on Wednesday, August 14, to discover the stories of the men who designed the bridge, who built the bridge, the people who used it and the plans for redevelopment. Project officer Emma Newrick will go a journey through time and over the River Usk. Free event but donations welcome and booking essential.

■■The Open Door Club for senior citizens is held at Christ the King Parish Centre, Newborough Avenue, Llanishen, Cardiff, every third Thursday of the month, 2-4pm. Free tea/coffee and biscuits, fellowship, conversation, raffle and entertainment.
