THE BOYS: VOLUME 1: THE NAME OF THE GAME

IF YOU’VE been enjoying Amazon’s new series of The Boys as much as I have, then this is a great opportunity to delve back into the archives.

Very much an adults-only book, this volume brings together the first stories that shaped the series (yes, Hughie Campbell was based on Simon Pegg, and that’s why Simon Pegg plays his dad in the show), and why The Boys are waging war on superheroes.

Written by Garth Ennis, with artwork by Darick Robertson, The Boys: Volume 1 is out now priced £11.99.

NEW DATA

IF, LIKE me, you were excited to see ‘Data’ appear at the end of the Picard trailer, then I have mixed news.

In a recent interview Patrick Stewart, who reprises his role as Picard in the new series, said the team behind the show “are writing a 10-hour movie” and that they’re hoping for more than one season to transpire.

Meanwhile, at a Star Trek convention in Las Vegas, Brent Spiner, who plays the android officer, said: “Data is a story point in this season as well. But I’m not in every episode. I’m not a major character on the show.”

Star Trek: Picard, is expected to hit the small screen early next year.

ONCE UP A TIME ...

QUENTIN TARANTINO’S ninth movie (apparently Kill Bill only counts as one) opens in cinemas next week. Once Upon A Time in Hollywood follows Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt as an actor and his stunt double through the last gasps of the golden age of Hollywood.

Now rumour has it that talks are under way to bring an extended cut (around four hours long) of the movie to Netflix, shown as a mini-series.

It wouldn’t be the first Tarantino movie to get the treatment, an extended version of The Hateful Eight appeared on the streaming service as a four-part series earlier this year.
