Step inside the secretive world of snakes this summer
GRAB your backpack and fill up your water bottle – come with us on an adventure in National Museum Cardiff. But beware – we will encounter some snakes!
Visitors to National Museum Cardiff have already been discovering the slithering, secret life of snakes at their new exciting new familyfriendly exhibition Snakes!
And you can count yourself among them. You’ll have the opportunity to come face to face with live snakes, including a boa constrictor and a royal python.
Objects on display include a Burmese python skeleton, preserved snakes and award-winning photographs of snakes from around the world.

You’ll learn about the importance of conservation and discover what life is like in countries where encounters with deadly snakes are a daily occurrence.
Ever wondered how snakes capture their prey? Or how they adapt to live in water? Or why they shed their skin?

Fun for the family
Experience what it’s like to handle these fascinating serpents in separate snake handling sessions over the summer holidays where visitors can actually touch these beautiful creatures.
There are also fun interactive displays for all ages including snake puzzles and a quiz.
To top off your snake-filled day, stop by the museum coffee shop for some snakecakes!
Snakes! is a touring exhibition created by Blue Tokay, with additional content from the natural sciences collections of Amgueddfa Cymru. The exhibition is supported by players of the People’s Postcode Lottery.
Entry to National Museum Cardiff is free, but there is a small fee for tickets to the Snakes! exhibition.
