Duncan delighted to join Martyrs’ quest
AHEAD of their opening BetVictor Southern League Premier Division clash of the season, Merthyr Town have announced the signing of utility man Camden Duncan.
The left-sided defender or midfielder was released by Cheltenham Town at the end of last season after completing his two-year scholarship.
Duncan, 18, spent time on loan at Hellenic League Premier Division club Lydney Town in 2018/19 and he was also included in the senior matchday 18 squad for both League Two and matches.
He has featured in most of Merthyr’s pre-season schedule where he will mostly be remembered for his fine strike against Aberfan Social whilst bagging a brace that night.
Speaking on signing, he told the Merthyr website: “I’m delighted to join this fantastic football club.
“I really enjoyed working with my teammates over pre-season, but now to finally sign is great.
“Now I’m just really excited for the Checkatrade Trophy big campaign ahead.”
The Martyrs begin their season with a trip to Harrow Borough (3pm), and skipper Ashley Evans is relishing the opportunity to get their campaign underway.
He said: “Everyone is very eager to start on the front foot after a tough pre-season schedule and we all hope that the hard work pays off with a big three points.
“Obviously, in this league, every game a tough challenge, especially Harrow, who are a good outfit.
“We will approach the game like any other with the same preparation and training. The gaffer will obviously have a game plan which we must stick to.
“A win would stand us in good stead ahead of another massive game on Tuesday against WestonSuper-Mare.”
Harrow, managed by Steve Baker, will also have a new face in their ranks for today’s game following the signing of former Bristol Rovers winger Kunle Otudeko.
