Ivy plans to open in city centre in time for new year

THE Ivy Collection has finally revealed exactly where and when it plans to open in Cardiff.

The world-famous group first revealed an interest in coming to the capital in 2017, but shelved the plans months later.

In May it was revealed that The Ivy was planning to open at the former Moss Bros store on the Hayes.

But it has now been revealed that the restaurant plans to open on the site of the former Jamie’s Italian later this year.

A spokeswoman for The Ivy Collection said: “The Ivy Collection has begun construction on a space at [St David’s] to open a brasserie in winter 2019.

“The restaurant will feature an all-day dining menu and will be open seven days a week.”

The Ivy Collection is a group of restaurants, brasseries and cafes, established in London but with a number of sites across the UK.

The group said each location is “carefully handpicked” to “add to the local area”.

A licensing application for the site has also been made for longer opening hours on New Year’s Eve.

Submitted on August 16, the licence is made by Troia Restaurants on behalf of the Ivy Collection.

It asks to sell alcohol from 9am until 1am Monday to Sunday, and until “the start of permitted hours” on January 1.

It also asks to play music until the early hours of New Year’s Day and the “provision of late night refreshment” until 5am on New Year’s Eve.

It comes after the same group applied to open another brand at the former Jamie’s Italian but then quickly withdrew the plans hours after they were made public.

WalesOnline revealed that a licensing application had been put in on behalf of the Harry’s brand for the now-empty site on The Hayes.

But less than a day later the application was withdrawn with no reason given to Cardiff council.

The once-popular Jamie’s Italian closed in May after the chain went into administration.

The site was later stripped out and is currently surrounded by hoarding while further work is carried out.

The application had also been put in by Troia on behalf of Harry’s.
