It’s time to break the cycle of trauma and neglect

-

FOSTERING often leads people to think of young children or babies.

However, the majority of children looked after by foster carer and local authorities in Wales are teenagers. Teenagers in care have often been through trauma, neglect, and abuse where routine and stability will not have been present during early growth.

It is important these young people are provided with the opportunity to develop and be nurtured in a positive stable home.

Being a role model to young people in care can be a huge step in allowing them to make the right decisions in their own lives.

You could play a key role in their development, teaching them skills that they will take with them into their adult life and pass on to their own future children.

By allowing teenagers the space to become their own individual person while giving them love, support and trust will encourage confident young people to emerge.

Calon Cymru provides comprehensive training that will provide you with the tools you need to handle many challenging situations as well as having 24/7 access with an experienced social worker.

It has a large support circle of experienced social workers, foster carers and staff who are willing to answer any questions that you have around becoming a foster carer. ■ If you think fostering could be for you then talk to one of our friendly team members on 029 2081 1173 for our Cardiff office or 01267 223112 for Carmarthen today, or visit the website for more information at www.caloncymru fostering.co.uk
