Pride Cymru is marking its 20-year milestone

Road closures, stage times, line-up and everything else you need to know

IT’S been 20 years since the first Pride Cymru event was launched, and the celebratio­n is returning for its milestone year. Pride Cymru’s Big Weekend will be held over the August bank holiday and welcomes everyone, regardless of gender, sexual orientatio­n, race or age to come together and celebrate individual­ity.

During the weekend, a variety of acts will perform over four stages, including drag acts, comedy acts and even a special dog show with Dogs Trust. Saturday will also see the parade through Cardiff city centre.

You can also expect street food, cabaret, funfair rides, a gin bar, a community market and a family area.

Here’s everything you need to know about Pride Cymru 2019; including key dates, road closures, stage times, and line-ups:

When is Pride Cymru 2019?

Pride Cymru 2019 is taking place this weekend, the August bank holiday weekend.

It kicks off today, August 23 from 6pm-11pm, and continues tomorrow, August 24, from noon until 11pm. The parade starts at 11am so people are advised to be there for 10.45am.

The final day is on Sunday, August 25, from noon until 11pm. Where is Pride Cymru 2019?

The main events are taking place on the lawns at Cardiff City Hall.

And the parade will take place throughout Cardiff city centre, starting at North Road.

There are three days of live entertainm­ent:

Friday – Charlie Hides (former contestant on Ru Paul’s Drag Race), as well as tribute acts to Pink, Bruno Mars and Dolly Parton.

Saturday – Gok Wan, Texas, Tina Cousins, Robert White.

Sunday – Atomic Kitten, Joel Dommett, Bethany Black.

Tickets

Ticket prices vary, depending on which day you’re heading over.

Adult prices start from around £7.50 per day and there are VIP packages on sale for £30.

Road closures

Roads will be closed across the centre of Cardiff and this will divert traffic for businesses and residents.

Please note that all feeder roads into the closed roads may also be affected.

The following roads will be closed to vehicle traffic from 9am tomorrow, August 24, until the completion of the parade:

North Road – Both carriagewa­ys. South from its junction with College Road to the city centre.

Kingsway – Both carriagewa­ys. Castle Street and Duke Street, the entire length will be closed.

High Street and St Mary Street – The restrictio­n on all traders’ vehicles after 10am will apply, and will be strictly enforced to ensure all the roads and the pedestrian areas are vehicle free prior to commenceme­nt of the parade.

The parade forms up on North Road from 9am and will be dispersed and clear at approximat­ely 2.30pm.

Bus routes and diversions

Certain buses will divert and start and end from different city centre stops than normal.

City Circle services 1 and 2 will start from Churchill Way HN, and the 11, 44/45, 49/50, 52, 57/58 will also start from Churchill Way.

Baycar, service 13 (to the Bay) and the 91 to Penarth Pier will all start from a temporary stop outside the Radisson Blu Hotel on Bute Terrace.

Cross city services 8, 9 and X45 will be split in the city centre.

The 8 and 9 to the Bay/Sports Village and X45 to Cardiff Bay Asda will start from Westgate Street KG, while the 8 & 9 to Heath Hospital and the X45 to St Mellons will start from Churchill Way.

Buses to the north of the city, the 21 & 23, 24, 25, 27, 28/28A/28B and 35 will start from Greyfriars Road. Service 30 to Newport will start from Greyfriars Road too.

From 9.30am until 1.30pm buses 21 & 23, 24 outbound, 25 inbound and 27 will enter and exit the city centre along Park Place and Colum Road as North Road will be closed from Colum Road to the city centre.

From 9.30am to 11am these services will start/end from their normal terminal points and serve city centre stops as normal.

Services 13 (to Drope), 15, 17 & 18, 25, 61, 63, 64, 66 and 96 will all start from their normal stops on Westgate Street, but on their inbound journeys to the city centre will run along Neville Street, Fitzhamon Embankment and Wood Street instead of Cardiff Bridge.

The Cardiff East Park and Ride service X59 will start and end from Dumfries Place HT all day, while the County Hall shoppers park & ride will start from a temporary stop outside the Radisson Blu Hotel on Bute Terrace.

Parking – Extensive parking suspension­s will be in place along the parade route from 9am tomorrow, August 24.

Suspension signs will be placed at all affected locations.

Deliveries – If you are a local business and you are expecting deliveries tomorrow, the organisers are asking you to make alternativ­e arrangemen­ts outside of the road closure timings.

Street furniture – organisers have requested that any street furniture you normally use is not set out prior to, during and until such time the end of the parade has past your business.
